What's in a Name?

As most of you have probably figured out, Huzonfirst is a take-off on the classic Abbott and Costello comedy routine, “Who’s On First?”. The name dates back to when I first had to choose an email name for myself. I wanted something that related to me, but I didn’t want anything like Larry14963. All of my early choices were taken by others. I finally decided on Huzonfirst because it tied into two of my great loves: baseball and classic comedy. It also didn’t require any following numbers!

The domain name that this web site is built on was actually a surprise birthday present from my wife. Naturally she had to come up with a name, so she chose Huzonfirst Games. I think it was an excellent choice.

The “Who’s On First?” skit was not created by Abbott and Costello. It dates back at least to the 1920’s (probably earlier) and was a staple of vaudeville at the time Lou and Bud were starting out. What the pair did do was refine it and (most importantly) perfect its comic timing. “Who’s On First?” is perhaps the most famous comedy routine of all time and remains an American classic, as funny today as it was seventy years ago.

By the way, in case you’re interested, here is the lineup that Bud was trying so hard to explain to Lou:

Third Base – I Don’t Know

Shortstop – I Don’t Give A Damn

Left Field – Why

Center Field – Because

The name of the right fielder is not mentioned in the skit.
